A stud farm in the wilderness...

As if it had sprung out from a dream on a warm summer night, our stud farm came to life in a small preserved valley in the South of France, where the brooms and wild thyme spread their luscious scents, where the green of the pine trees is entangled with the deep blue of the mountain skies, and where the clear water springs sing discretely under the shade of the trees…

Located in the Drôme area, between the Vercors setting and Provence, Midsummer Night’s Dream Paint-Horses – breeding Painthorses and quarter-horses of international quality – and its 43 hectares, is only an hour away from Valence on the Paris-Marseille axis while offering an exceptional environment to our horses.

They live outdoors all year round as a balanced herd (stallion, mares and colts), grazing in vast mountainous pastures during the nice season (400 ha), drinking clear water from the streams that roam in the property… Our facilities (free stalls, shelters, paddock paradise) are however available for them when needed.

All of our horses are thoroughly tended for on a daily basis and benefit from a high quality health service (veterinary, osteopathy, podiatry…). They also enjoy optimal living conditions which allow them to flourish as well on a physical, mental and emotional level (body-mind-spirit): diversified pastures in terms of elevation, with a mixture of prairies, woods and moors giving the horses many opportunities to choose and vary what they eat; all this added to a stimulating living area, a rich, stable and structured social life, a symbiosis with the elements, the cycle of the seasons, the local wildlife…

Because we see our horses as fellow companions, we try to give them as much as what they bring to us.

In the same frame of mind, we try to question the equestrian practices on a regular basis, especially those tied to the most critical periods in a horse’s life: birth, education, weaning and separation, gelding, breaking in…, experimenting alternative ways (natural foaling and weaning, barefoot trimming, “natural breaking in”, and bitless riding – far from any type of dogma, in all simplicity) in an attempt to intervene as little as possible while suggesting a fulfilling relationship to the horse and letting its personnality blossom. Because we see our horses as fellow companions, we try to give them as much as what they bring to us.

They correspond as far as we can make it to the concept of “organic horses”: fed on demand with high quality hay (from the natural park of Vercors thus exempt from chemical fertilizer), lucerne/alfalfa, germinated barley (only when needed), mineral supplements, grazing in natural prairies or pastures which have been sown with various sorts of grass or leguminous plants, drinking clear stream water… Therefore getting in a perfect symbiosis with their environment. You will hence find in our place horses full of health, not “trained” but educated, respectful while not submissive, enthousiast, and happily communicating with humans. You will also discover great quality horses, champions or champion offspring (World Championship Lineage), all clear and exempt from the principal genetic diseases (panel 5).

Stallions and broodmares have been carefully selected according to their origin, physical structure and temperament so the newborn foals can be well-balanced and perform at a high standard. But of course, we first and foremost chose them with our heart… As a result in our stud farm, you will have the opportunity to get a great show horse, as well as a top breeding one, and/or a magnificent life partner depending on what you feel like.
